Art
Curriculum:
Our art curriculum at all levels is organized around
three interrelated themes: Looking at Art, Exploration
of Media and Techniques, and Creating Art.
Looking
at Art includes exposure to the works of great artists,
both contemporary and old masters, as well as the development
of artistic styles and periods.
Exploration of Media and Techniques involves learning,
through experimentation, to manipulate form and color
using a wide variety of materials, tools, and techniques
in drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, weaving, and
construction.
Creating Art provides students with the opportunity
for self-expression and the development of perceptual
awareness as they experience making creative choices,
problem solving, and using artistic skills in each project
assigned.
The Elements of Art: line, color, texture, value, shape,
and space and the Principles of Design: balance, harmony,
composition, rhythm, emphasis, and unity are fully integrated
into the weekly art lessons.
