This year, our first graders will continue on their journey to becoming life long learners. In addition to a stimulating curriculum, first graders will participate in many field trip adventures that will complement their learning experiences.
Our reading program focuses on fluency and comprehension skills and is designed to create a love of reading. The students receive direct, whole class instruction in reading, using the phonics based Houghton Mifflin reading program. Additionally, our literature circle program provides differentiated instruction to all first graders, using popular core literature. Monthly book reports will be assigned to all students.
The first grade math program is based on real world math application. Hands-on math, and problem solving skills are combined in a comprehensive curriculum designed to meet California 's high educational standards and encourages our students to become strong mathematical thinkers.
In Social Studies we will use the project based Social Studies Alive Program. First graders will focus on learning how family and school play important roles in their community experience. Our Social Studies curriculum includes small groups as well as whole class instruction. Bi-monthly field trips allow our students to venture out into our community and explore the world around them.
Our first grade year has gotten off to a great start. Don't miss out on a single exciting moment. Check back for the latest information on all the wonderful things happening in our first grade class.
